The Kalash Kalabi Reserve is a privately-owned reserve just 10 minutes form Santa Marta. A spectacular dry forest habitat provides excellent opportunities to view species such as the near-endemic slender-billed tyrannulet, the magnificent collared aracari and the colorful keel-billed toucan. As military macaws and brown-throated parakeets fly overhead, other interesting birds to seek out include ferruginous pygmy-owl, straight-billed woodcreeper and lance-tailed manakin.

Several streams run through the reserve, which was once owned by a local drug smuggler and is now maintained for conservation and educational purposes. A network of ancient trails are being reworked in native stone to allow visitors to experience the reserve.
