A Country in Peace

Colombians will forever remember the year 2017 as the year of peace. This year saw the culmination of a 55 year civil war, with the signing of a peace agreement between the government and the FARC (Armed Revolutionary Forces of Colombia) guerilla group. It was not easy, it took more than four years and important concessions had to be made by both groups, but today Colombia breathes an air of peace and optimism.

A country that until recently could not provide safe travel destinations for its own citizens, Colombia now has a growing and prosperous nature travel industry with birders and nature enthusiasts flocking in from all corners of the planet. Areas that were once combat zones are now flourishing, aided by friendly locals, expert guides, good infrastructure and the positive economic impact that tourism has on rural areas. Peace, tourism and conservation go hand in hand, and at Colombia Birdwatch we work hard to ensure that nature travel has a positive impact on the communities we visit. We wish to extend an invitation to visit this ornithological paradise, and take part in supporting the historic changes happening in Colombia. Of course, the birds, people, food and scenery will never disappoint.
